Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a state-of-the-art, game-changing service offered by Amy’s Mind Lab, a therapy center that adheres to only evidence-based practices in the areas of brain health. In micro doses, ketamine is found to be profoundly effective as an antidepressant when administered in a therapeutic setting.
What is Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy?
Originally developed as an anesthetic and approved by the FDA in 1970, ketamine can be used to treat anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). The ingestion of ketamine in micro dosages follows the prescription of a qualified, licensed prescriber, under the supervision of a therapist certified in psychedelic psychotherapy.
How does it work?
It works by blocking the brain’s NMDA (N-methyl-D-aspartate) receptors, which are involved in mood, perception of pain, and cognitive function. It stimulates AMPA receptors, which can help form new synaptic connections and boost mood-regulating neural circuits. Ketamine has been shown to enhance neuroplasticity – the state when your brain can more easily learn, change, and adapt — for lasting symptom improvement. It effects the neurotransmitters glutamate and serotonin, which also promote synaptic connections and neural plasticity. This all gives the brain an extra push to build, grow, and create new brain cells.
What are the results?
Our clients report seeing a significant improvement in their ability to regulate their mood and think more clearly. This is often noticed within hours, and lasts for up to two weeks per session. In addition to those changes, ketamine assisted psychotherapy has demonstrated exceptional effectiveness in reducing symptoms of social and general anxiety disorders, OCD, PTSD, and treatment-resistant depression.
